HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Inaugurate Dubai Internet City’s Pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2016

16The Dubai Internet City (DIC) team at the 2016 GITEX Technology Week was honoured to have HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai at Dubai World Trade Centre, inaugurate the DIC pavilion. Participating at GITEX for the 17th consecutive year, the pavilion was designed to highlight the innovations that are shaping the future of Dubai.

Malek Sultan Al Malek, CEO of TECOM Business Parks and Ammar AlMalik, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, welcomed HH Sheikh Mohammed and HH Sheikh Hamdan who were given a VIP tour of the pavilion. They witnessed how Dubai Internet City is providing a platform for multinationals and local start-ups to develop technologies that are contributing to the emirate’s vision of becoming one of the world’s smartest cities, with participation from Visa, Uber and TECOM Group’s innovation arm, in5.

Following the opening in DIC earlier this year, of what is the third Visa Innovation Centre in the world, the global payments technology company showcased a series of payment technologies which have been created in Dubai. These solutions will enable cashless payments in a smart and secure way by using biometric data to authorise transactions. Another DIC business partner, Uber, also highlighted the autonomous driving technology they’re developing to transform the way we travel.

The in5 innovation centre also played a significant role in showcasing how it is enabling the emirate’s start-up community to evolve. During 2016 GITEX Technology Week, in5 hosted technology start-ups including wrappup, One, Crowd Analyzer, mrUsta, and Corporate Stack, which have already been widely recognised for their initial success in bringing new ideas and technology solutions to the region.
